Ivy League Records is an elite modeling agency specialising in providing waif thin stick figure ladies with no arse for corporate functions, specialist events and horse racing promotions.
In addition, we are the faceless breadheads behind the "Ivy Dollars!" © pyramid selling system that preys upon the insecure and friendless, encouraging them to call up people they haven’t seen since Primary School under the guise of "catching up" only to trap them into agreeing to come along to an "information evening" for $25 dollars before they know it.
In addition we encourage polygamy and conduct mass weddings in 12,000 seat arenas every six months because, let’s face it, we are a cult.
At least, these were some of the ideas originally thrown around by three friends - Pete Lusty, Andy Cassell and Andy Kelly, when we first conceived of having a record label back in 1997. But as none of them seemed to have much to do with music, we decided to stick with what we know and like (music) and Ivy League Records was born.
In those early years we were like little puppies with too-big ears and no real idea what we were doing, just putting out records we liked and doing everything ourselves from writing and producing the songs, telling the bands what to wear to... er... no, no, you know what I mean.
We released some fantastic Australian singles and albums by our favourite Australian bands and friends - Youth Group, 78 Saab, Hoolahan, The John Reed Club and The Monarchs to name... well, all of them actually.
After a while we found ourselves to be really rather busy in our other business (Winterman and Goldstein Management) as managers of The Vines, Jet and Rocket Science, and let the label have a couple of years off on reduced pay, but with full medical benefits.
We always loved the label and were firmly of the opinion that as soon as we had the opportunity and the backing to do it properly, we would dust off the "Open For Business" sign, hang it in the window, and have label running like a well oiled machine (eg: full of oil), so we could release music that we loved from all over the world.
Ivy League's philosophy is very simple in that we exist simply to put out music that we love, and feel that other people should have the opportunity to hear for themselves.
That, and to sell enough albums to make the bands themselves never have to suffer the indignity of working for the "man" ever again.
So buy up damn you!
We've got big plans for Ivy League, some incredible releases coming up from all over the world, and look forward to letting you know about them over the coming months.
Thanks for stopping by and be sure to come back whenever it takes your fancy.
YOU HEARD ME!
