Bliss Release: ALBUM OF THE YEAR?
It has been an amazing ride so far for Sydney four piece Cloud Control. After wowing audiences nationwide as sole supports to Vampire Weekend, selling out their own national tour and gaining rave album reviews from critics nationwide, Cloud Control’s debut album ‘Bliss Release’ debuted in the ARIA top 20 in its first week. Further momentum was established following an ‘album of the week’ monopoly on all major publications, including a trifecta in the form of FBi, RRR and Triple j featured albums.
In celebration of this success, Cloud Control has announced further shows to extend their tour party! This June/July sees the band celebrating the Annandale Hotel’s 10th birthday by headlining Friday June 25th. In July the band shall party out with long time supporters FBi by playing a Sydney night entitled “Choose your own adventure” on July 10th. They will then embark on an East coast tour with the Magic Numbers and top it off with a performance at the sold-out Splendour in the Grass festival before heading to the UK to spoil one of Australia’s best kept secrets! Ivy League Signs Cabins + Wons Phreely!
Ivy League is ecstatically whimsy to announce two new signing within as many weeks - up and coming four piece CABINS and electro-troubadour WONS PHREELY.
Having cut their musical teeth playing their oddly exotic brand of dark balladry extensively around Sydney and Melbourne over the past 12 months, including national tours with Wolf and Cub, The Scare and The Mess Hall, Cabins release their debut recording, the mini album ‘Bright Victory’ out June 11.
‘‘Dark”, “melodic”, “spiky” and “atmospheric” are all overused words in the noble pursuit of describing sound. Still, they all seem oddly appropriate when trying to get a handle on what Cabins are.
Produced by Woody Annison (Red Riders, Children Collide); ‘Bright Victory’ captures Cabins’ mix of menace and melody. Surrealistic tales penned by front man Leroy are carried along by musical arrangements full of woozy pianos, horns, sparse guitars and a rhythm section that at times threatens to play itself into a trance. Underpinning it all is a melodic and lyrical adventurousness that suggest a band willing to experiment and progress beyond the standard expectations, even at this early stage of their musical life.
To celebrate the release of ‘Bright Victory’, Cabins are heading off on a national tour with Children Collide in June. Tickets can be purchased on fan presale Monday May 3rd via the Children Collides website, with tickets available to the general public May 6th at usual outlets.
3rd June Neverland Bar, Coolangatta QLD
4th June The Zoo, Brisbane QLD
5th June Factory Theatre, Sydney NSW
10th June Prince of Wales, Bunbury NSW
11th June Rosemount Hotel, Perth WA
12th June The Gov, Adelaide SA
13th June The Hifi, Melbourne VIC

Wons Phreely's real name is Justin Wonsley Snowball and he has been described as an eclectic cross between Jarvis Cocker and Elvis Costello, but to keep things normal he simply goes by the name of Wons Phreely.
After releasing his well received The Rules Of Nature EP, Wons did what any budding young artist would do; set off on an odyssey travelling the world for a year and a half. After living in three of the world’s most vibrant city centres - London, Berlin and outer state New York, Wons began to funnel a diet of new experiences, hard-partying, contemporary and classic hip-hop and underground electro into his newfound inspiration to observe life.
Wons Phreely’s first release on Ivy League is an electrifying three-minute pop gem called “The World Has A Bank Account”, which follows the classic Springsteen tradition of combining dark lyrics with bright melodies. The single, along with the music video, are being serviced to radio on the 4th of May and available from iTunes on May 18.
In May 2010 Wons Phreely and his new look line-up will be playing select dates with Dan Kelly as follows:
Sat, 15 May - Northcote Social Club (Melb)
Fri, 28 May – The Spectrum (Syd)
Sat, 29 May – Brass Monkey (Cronulla)
