RED RIDERS back from the dead + playing shows
With April Fools Day approximately seven months in the past, we can safely and confidently guarantee you that this is not a joke. And unless you are reading this in your sleep, it's probably not a dream either. True fact: the Red Riders are live and kicking! Coincidentally, they are also playing live with none other than Franz Ferdinand and you will be kicking yourself if you don't go.
We are delighted to announce the return of Glasgow lads Franz Ferdinand to stages in Melbourne and Sydney in 2009 – their first in two years. Joining them at these one-off headline shows will be UK rockers The Cribs and Sydney’s own Red Riders.
Red Riders will open the shows in each city. The Sydney band is currently working on the follow-up to their acclaimed debut album Replica Replica. They've been writing songs all year and are set to enter the studio later this year to record their highly anticipated second album (due for release in 2009 through Ivy League Records). Live, the Red Riders are a force to be reckoned with, and with the promise of new material on this tour, they’re worth arriving on time for.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday 29 October and are sure to sell like delicious hotcakes.

Chasing Ghosts in Macquarie Fields
Last month, Snob Scrilla and some of his mates went down to Macquarie Fields to hang out with the kids involved in the ‘Outreach program’ of local Sydney charity ‘Youth Off The Streets’. The Outreach program is a service for young people 12-21 who are at risk or disadvantaged. It provides a weekly safe and friendly environment to engage young people in discussion about their circumstances, in order to provide positive alternatives to their current situation and to develop strength-based interventions on an individual needs basis.
Snob Scrilla used the budget from his latest video clip to throw a party for the kids, inviting them to come down, play basketball, beatbox, breakdance and just hang out. The results were filmed by Snob's friends (some of whom are professional camera operators – lucky) and edited to make a clip for ‘Chasing Ghosts’.
The remainder of the video budget was donated to 'Youth Off The Streets' to provide text books, reading books, groceries for aftercare, board games, dance classes, cook books and kitchen equipment sets.
While the clip for ‘Chasing Ghosts’ is due out in the coming weeks, the single is already creating a radio hurricane, spinning itself all the way to high rotation on Triple J. Not even waiting for the dust to settle from his recent trailblazing national tour with Sparkadia and Faker, Snob intends to keep the momentum going by playing a run of festival dates AND by hosting a long awaited launch for his debut EP 'The Day Before...' Yikes!

'Chimney's Afire' heats up the charts
Josh Pyke's new album 'Chimney's Afire' has blazed its way to a scorching debut at #3 on the ARIA charts.
It is set to become one of the biggest Australia releases this year, with only freakish sales from Kings of Leon and Metallica keeping Josh from taking out #1. His previous album 'Memories and Dust' debuted in the ARIA chart at #4. It later went on to sell over 50 000 copies and win 3 ARIA Awards (nominated for 5).
Having stunned audiences across the country with his recent sell-out ‘Lighthouse Tour’, Josh has also enjoyed the privilege of Triple J Album Of The Week and next week will present an award at this year's ARIAs. Josh’s new single, ‘Make You Happy’, is at radio this week and is already beginning to cause a tidal wave. The much anticipated clip features Josh sailing around Sydney Harbour in a guitar boat, and will premiere on Tuesday 21 October. It seems the tide is turning and it’s most certainly in Josh’s favour.

Shake and Bake
Two more Ivy League bands have joined the summer festival ranks, with 78 Saab spreading peace in the park at this year' s Homebake, and Youth Group set to wow crowds at the Big Day Out '09. 78 Saab will be joining fellow leaguers The Vines, Sparkadia + Snob Scrilla, along with other top acts including Crowded House, Eddy Current Suppression Ring and You Am I. Youth Group, who are currently touring to promote their fourth album 'The Night is Ours', will be enjoying a day out with bands including Neil Young, the Living End and the Arctic Monkeys. Glorious.

Youth Group + theredsunband are dating...
Sydney bands Youth Group and theredsunband are about to set off on a mammoth 18-date co-headlining tour. The month long tour kicks off on October 16th and winds its way through five states & territories over four weeks.
The history of the two bands has long been intertwined: theredsunband played their first gig with Lizzie Kelly on keyboards supporting Youth Group at the Hopetoun Hotel in 2002. Lizzie was 16 years old and travelling on a fake ID. Youth Group singer, Toby Martin, first recalls hearing demos of theredsunband in a car with his bandmates and once gave early single 'Sleep Forever' five stars in a magazine review.
The good will has continued with the two bands now heading out on tour together in a 12-seater bus, on equal billing, sharing beer and gear and even peforming a special encore. This week, Sarah Kelly & Toby Martin met at Erskineville Oval (home of the South Sydney Rabbitohs) armed with a 1952 Australian Penny with which to decide who would headline each night of the tour. The bands will headline one night each in Sydney and Melbourne and share all other dates equally. All details in our dates section + TICKETS ON SALE NOW!
